The Joker Helmet | Official DC Design by Adam Taylor
Designing the Official Joker Helmet for Warner Bros. and DC Comics was a highlight of my time as Head of Design at Ruroc.
From early concept sketches to final production, I led the entire creative process for this helmet. The success of the Ruroc ATLAS Joker paved the way for me to design additional official helmets for Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Riddler — shaping an entire line of DC-inspired motorcycle gear.
Concept Artwork
One of my early Joker concept pieces is shown here. In total, I explored over a dozen design directions — drawing inspiration from Heath Ledger’s and Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayals as well as classic comic book versions. The final design stayed true to the Joker’s chaotic spirit while feeling sophisticated enough for a modern rider.
Breaking the Mold
Motorcycle helmets themed after comics often fall back on cliché, youthful designs. From the start of the Ruroc x DC collaboration, I was determined to change that. My goal was to create artwork that respected the character’s dark, iconic personality but stood apart from the usual comic-style graphics. Every line and detail was carefully considered to feel cinematic, intense, and unmistakably Joker — but fresh and unexpected in the motorcycle world.
This helmet is more than fan art — it’s an official DC design, brought to life through authentic storytelling and bold industrial design.
